For a few days, the winds quit.

I sat on the porch after 10 p.m. in absolute

stillness.

This is rare here. It was sublime.

Because the moon was one night from being full,

the huge hackberry with arms spread over the corner of the yard

and part-way across the front of the porch,

cast shadows from the moonlight.

And not a leaf moved.

To experience perfect stillness in nature

is to experience perfect stillness

within.
