Mother Barnswallow feeding young
Right outside the basement door on the beams is a barnswallow nest. They are not everyone’s favorite bird. But they are fascinating to watch. When the mother is feeding her young there are really several adult birds flying around. I wonder if only the mother is feeding them. It is hard to keep track of who is doing what. As you watch the nest, all of a sudden the adult flies in and all the babies open their mouths. Only one gets fed at a time. She never lands, but while her wings are flapping, she sticks her head completely into one of the babies mouths and deposits the food and flies off again. Truly amazing!
