Wind
and an inch of rain
in the night.
After seven days of temperature
between 101 and 106,
mudpuddles!
Dog water dishes blown to the east
and the west.
Wicker chair pillows
found in a cedar tree.
The sky is still dark in the east
as sun casts shadows
across the pond,
a little muddier,
a little closer to normal depth.
There is absolutely nothing
humans can do about the weather.
And so it feels like such a relief
when a storm breaks the hot
and dry.
An inch of rain
in mid-July
in Oklahoma.
We can relax now
in gratitude
for something
we
didn’t do.
