On the Eve
came the Christmas promise:
“Love.
Peace.
Let it Come.”

We have entered the Christmas season:
twelve days of receiving…

On the Eighth Day of Christmas,
the first day of the new year,
we received
the Sabbath.
Time with Love/Spirit
in a faith community
in crisis,
where, palpable,
was a sense of deflation,
sadness and grief at tremendous loss;
and yet: intimacy and warmth,
coming together,
finding strength,
mustering hope;
the dawning realization
of opportunity
for new and unexpected purpose.
Time—gentle, good-natured—
with Love/Spirit
at table
with three generations of family.
Time in evening’s golden hour
with Love/Spirit,
and the dogs,
walking in winter’s dried grasses
on the prairie.
Tender, sweet Christmas gifts
all.
