Pigs in their new plot

The pigs finished
rooting out grass
next to a grove of Russian Olive trees
and Erica has spread hands full
of wildflower seeds there.
The honeybee hives are situated
next to the Russian Olive stand
and we’re hoping there are lots of blossoms
to feed them
this summer.
Last summer,
in the drought,
Ann fed the bees 25 pounds of sugar,
in water,
a week.

Now the pigs have been moved
to a new pen
in the orchard
to dig out the Bermuda grass roots there,
where berry bushes
and young fruit trees
will be planted.
It’s their biggest job
yet.
Happy pigs
they are.
