Simpler Living
is a spiritual practice,
really.
It is a stance
of the soul
and in the world.
The practical aspects—
not accumulating,
living lightly on the planet
and with each other—
are part of the spiritual practice.
It seems to work both ways:
practical simple living
leads to spiritual depth—
and coming to know
the spiritual basis
for living simply
leads to a lighter,
heartier
life.

Observe your life diligently. Frequent encounters with deep gladness are a sign you are living fully and fruitfully your creativity.

Cultivating a spirituality for simple living involves locating and exploring those places in our soul that ring like great jubilant wind chimes to the breezes and whispers of the divine. Simplicity clears the decks for this vital work. It frees us from clutter so that we can wake up to hear the great chiming within us.

This is from Rich Heffern’s book
Adventures in Simple Living.
A Creation-Centered Spirituality.

There’s more:

In a fundamental way our souls and the universe are in cahoots. We adventure through our lives linked with vast alliances.

Apparently the universe we inhabit is thoroughly and devotedly interrelated. Its underlying reality is dynamic and completely beyond conceptualization. Our universe is process. It is a web, a community, a vast interlocking fabric of relationships…The universe is a completely undivided and seamless whole—even the ‘objective’ observer cannot be separated out from it.

Awe and wonder in the face of the huge mysteries of our existence stir our spiritualities to life. Each and every one of us lives out our unique lives, and this living is an essential and necessary part of the weave of the fabric that is the universe. We look around us and see much cause for despair, but also much cause for hope, as our living takes on ever deeper levels of meaning. ‘New vistas of unspeakable wonder are opening up before us,’ writes Michael Talbot. ‘Humankind is on the verge of the incredible.’

So then,
not surprising
these connections
between the spiritual
and the practical;
our souls
and our lifestyles.
Being in touch with one aspect
is being in touch with the other.
