OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

These warm mornings,
my first steps,
still barefoot,
are to the front porch.
First sight yesterday
was a fat Bluejay
drinking at the water dish.
This morning,
a soft, warm, white glow
amidst green blades—
Dutch Iris
abloom.

One moment,
there are buds, leaves unfurled,
and the next time I take a look,
tender leaves, blossoms.
Perhaps
nothing is more important
these bright days
than noticing—
looking deeply,
appreciating—
the beauty
that seems to silently emerge
every moment.
What if we missed it?
