Tradition around our farm
is that in the winter
you work on machinery.
Ann did just that,
building a bigger-better
solar dehydrator
in the garage.
Friends Bruce and Barbara
supplied the instructions and guidance.
They built one
some time ago.
Ours made its maiden appearance
this week,
collecting sunshine
and dehydrating one of last summer’s favorites—
zucchini chips—
on the trays in the back.
We’ll dehydrate tomatoes
and peppers,
once we’ve had our fill
of gazpacho.
Melons are great dehydrated too,
once we’ve had our fill
of sorbet.
Ah summer!
