Morning frost sparkles
Yellow leaves wiggle, fluttter
Right time to let go

That would be a haiku,
a nature poem,
describing a moment
under the Hackberry tree
this morning.

Our friend Jeannie Martin
has led two haiku retreats
here at Turtle Rock Farm.
She is a wonderful haiku-maker.
And now she’s written a book
that not only contains many
of her haiku
and explains how to write them,
but explores the spiritual value
of writing haiku.
I was privileged to read the book
Clear Water,
and write a blurb for the jacket:

Jeannie Martin not only invites us into creating haiku, but gently reveals the haiku way of paying attention, of life made more meaningful by purposeful awareness of the simple details of our beautiful home – and, critical to our time, our relationship in it. This is a book to savor for years to come; a treasure, a necessity.

Clear Water - Jeannie Martin

It’s out today!—
through our friend Steven Charlston‘s
publishing house: Red Moon Publications.
I couldn’t recommend a book more highly.
Jeannie will be back at Turtle Rock Farm
to lead another retreat in 2014!
I’m sure she’ll be happy to sign
your books then.

This is my favorite haiku of Jeannie’s
(so far):

to love you
to love myself
