On this day, I can see more sky
than anything.
Even 360 degrees of prairie,
horizon to horizon
to horizon to horizon,
is a narrow plain
compared to the bowl of blue
rising way, way, way beyond
what I can see.
On this clear, cool, sunny June afternoon
my eyes focus back
for a panoramic view.
On this day—
a day off from any concern—
my usually tight, focused-in vision
somehow, without intention,
expands and opens.
The clouds in my mind clear
and I can see the spacious sky,
the clouds,
They are breathtaking.
